I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a while. For most of our relationship, the primary way that we’ve been sharing our adventures, both on the road and at home, has been on Facebook. Obviously that’s convenient for quickly letting folks know where we are or what we’re doing. But it’s less-good for longer form pieces that go into more depth on where exactly we went or what we learned while there. There are also some very real downsides to Facebook being our only outlet to share our experiences. On Facebook (and Instagram), users have very little control over how their content is displayed and organized, we don’t really own the data we post, and we are providing content, for free, to an organization that feels less and less like a good (or even neutral) force in our world.

The solution? Start a blog! The goal isn’t to abandon posting on social media, but to also create longer-form pieces that include more of our thoughts that aren’t communicated by landscapes and selfies. And this seems like a good time to start. We are very lucky to be so well positioned to weather the the COVID-19 crisis, and I am exceedingly grateful for that, but not being able to get out and travel, whether to exotic foreign lands or just to my mom’s house, has been pretty hard on me. Something that’s been nice is spending time with photos and check-ins from our past adventures, so maybe going through some of that stuff and turning it into blog content will be a fun project.

That means that for the time being, most posts will actually be from trips and events some time ago. But rest assured, once we’re out in the world having fun new adventures again, I’ll be posting about them here!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy re-visiting some of our best times with us. Stay safe out there!
